Migramoms in a digital world
Donate

Migrant women, and especially mothers, are over-represented in the statistics of people outside the workforce. Those who try to enter the workforce, are met with insurmountable obstacles (e.g. lack of the required education, or education from their home country is not recognized, cultural barriers such as language and understanding of social norms etc.) In an increasingly digitized world, limited digital skills and competencies also represent a significant barrier to social or professional participation.

The project aims:

  • to develop a comprehensive TRAINING COURSE with the objective of mapping and developing the non-formal, informal, and formally acquired skills, knowledge, and competences among stay-at-home migrant mothers,

  • to strengthen their employability and facilitate their entry into the labor market without requiring extensive re-education (with potential to also reduce the average length of time of re-entry into the labor market after childbirth).

The project will utilize employability and entrepreneurship as specific empowerment measures, through the use of a two-pronged approach:

1. identifying existing competencies and skills among migrant mothers, and assisting in exploiting their transferability to the context of formal employment opportunities.

2. assisting migrant mothers in overcoming the cultural barriers they may encounter during their entry into the labor force of their receiving society.

The project will also result in development of TRAINING PROGRAMME for trainers and educators working in the fields of inclusion and integration (adaptable to both digital or blended learning formats) and pedagogical handbook, which will provide an overview detailing the process of the project as well as the methodology and content of the training courses.

Project partners in Milan, the city of contrasts

Milan is not only a city of contrasts, but also the first meeting place of the MigraMoms in digital world project partners which we have joined.

We met in San Siro, one of the largest urban areas of Milan, where almost half of the population is made up of foreigners. A short walk through the streets brought us closer to the environment in which the Italian MigraMoms live.

We visited Spazio FENUN, a place of community meetings, diverse cultures and a film club with an international program, where they try to involve marginalized groups of the local population.

We also visited the MEET Digital Culture Center, which aims to reduce the gap in digital skills between people living in Italy. And that through the creative use of technology.

At the joint meeting, we presented our activities, specified tasks and steps within the project.

We look forward to further cooperation and the opportunity to combine the unique know-how that each partner brings to the project.

The project is realized in cooperation with organisations Associazione Piano Ca Soleterre (Soleterre Italia) from Italy, Euromasc AS a Stiftelsen Mangfold i arbeidslivet from Norway, INFODEF from Spain, Le Monde des Possibles ASBL from Belgium.
